Gym motivation for the winter season

The summer weather is well and truly over. For many of us we are struggling to stay motivated which doesn’t come as a surprise as we look out our windows to find the cold, blustery weather outside. The team at Club Vitae know how hard it is to stay motivated in the winter months.  Continue reading to discover our thoughts, tips and motivations at Club Vitae to help you stay motivated and ace your gym routine this winter.

The benefits of the gym are of course endless but one benefit that stands out for us is happiness! In this turbulent world we find ourselves in, who wouldn’t want an escape from the hustle and bustle to recharge and reset our minds. When we exercise, it allows us to release endorphins, adrenaline and dopamine all of which are brain chemicals associated with feeling happy and rejuvenated. These benefits are cumulative, they have the ability to make us feel good on the inside and the outside.

Find a gym buddy…

Although the gym is a time to work on ourselves and our own personal development, it is a lot easier to do so with a gym buddy. Reach out to a friend or connect with another member at a Club Vitae near you. Even if you do not exercise together this is an excellent way to stay accountable and track your progress together.

Know your limits…

As well as improving our mental health and making us feel better, going to the gym aids in weight management and helps to improve overall health. All Club Vitae Leisure Centres have highly experienced, well- trained staff but it is recommended you consult your GP before commencing any intense exercise.

Have a plan…

Going to the gym can be daunting for many of us. Being prepared, organised and having a plan in place can make your gym experience ten times easier and enjoyable too. Before you get back into the gym review your workout clothes and look forward to putting them on every day.

Be comfortable

Purge the workout clothes that don’t make you feel good and opt for bright, motivating colours. Psychologists associate red with strength or purple with confidence but choose whatever makes you feel best! Another helpful tip associated with workout clothes is leaving your workout bag in a place that is visible and accessible to you. You will be less inclined to skip a workout when your bag is waiting to be picked up and brought to the gym!

Most importantly, reward yourself!

Make this a priority and look forward to it. Set yourself small and big goals. After your workout treat yourself to something you love or something you love to do. There is no better satisfaction than smashing a workout and patting yourself on the back for a job well done.
